The Important Ingredients

 I'm not trying to talk about food ingredients here. This entry is about my insight about the things that people neglect.
People nowadays look more on physical
attractiveness and superficial things and many relationships failed
because of this. I'm not saying that looking for someone who is
beautiful or handsome is not right. It's just that people tend to
ignore the essential things that they should be looking for in a
person. I guess there are some things that are needed for people to be
sure that their relationship is full of transparency, and free from
pretense.
Respect. This is always always a
first for me. With this, everything follows. Respect doesn't only mean
that you should not do anything offensive, unfavorable or harmful to
someone, but also considering the shortcomings and the imperfections of
an individual. We are humans, and we are not perfect, as one of those
sayings always told us. And maybe, there are 0.000001% of the human
population in our generation who believe on this. Everything that is
pleasing to our eyes are the ones that we give more attention and
preference nowadays. It's not bad but it's not healthy when we overdo
it. And it's not really good when we neglect something that is more
important than that.
Honesty. Yes. This is one
of the things that people lack. Everyone wears a mask. We can't deny
that this is one of the most important things to possess if we want to
have a lasting and a genuine relationship, whether it be between family
members, friends, lovers, etc. Many people try to change themselves and
be someone that they are not just to satisfy the desire of someone.
They don't realize that they're starting to play a game instead of
starting a good and genuine relationship. If we are seeking a real
relationship, we don't have to wear a mask and we don't have to play a
role-playing game.
Trust. This won't be
achieved without Honesty. We can't trust someone who is not honest,
right? Because of the reason that people nowadays are very pretentious
or likes to wear a mask is what makes people paranoid or distrustful
towards other people. But the question is, how would you know if
someone is truthful, trustworthy and honest? It's really hard to tell,
especially when you are betrayed by someone whom you gave your full
trust. Sometimes, you can't even trust your relatives, and that's a sad
fact. Sometimes, people doesn't even trust themselves.
Acceptance. This
is one of the things that people lack nowadays. Forgetting the fact
that no one is perfect and we have flaws make people superficial.
People become very judgmental especially on the physical aspect of an
individual. People might even say: "I don't believe on the saying:
'Don't judge the book by its cover' or 'Beauty is in the eye of the
Beholder' or other similar quotes and sayings." and then crackle with
laughter afterwards. But the thing is, everything comes to an end, and
physical beauty fades with time. You and I are not perfect, and so is
everyone else. Think again, you might be missing something special
behind that unattractive shell!
Positivity. This
is also essential in every relationship. Being negative would keep
people away from you. A simple smile could cause a lot of good things
for you and for everyone around you. Thinking about someone positively
would keep you away from darkness, confusion and doubt. Assuming is
also something that should be avoided. It causes a lot of
misunderstandings and conflicts among people.
Understanding. Oh, yes. People are always fed up, especially when everything doesn't
turn out as they want things to be. This is also essential in a
relationship, and people often neglect this. People who are egocentric
probably lack this, and they only listen and believe on what they think
and believe is true. People should give a listening ear to other people
so that there will be a good relationship between them. It seems to be
very simple but a lot of people cannot fully do this. They are RARE.
Patience. It is also one of the most important values that a person must possess.
Everything takes time, and every person needs this to be able to find
what they are trying to seek. People give up on relationships because
they think that their relationship is not going to work out, or
sometimes, they thing that they are not meant for each other because
there are a lot of problems that come between them. This is where
understanding comes out.
Love. This is so
vague, complicated and too general. People would say that there are
many kinds of love, like love between friends, lovers, family members,
etc. It is also known to be "stupidity" because they say that people
who are in love become fools, stupid, etc. In addition, it is also
regarded as the most powerful force in human life. It is when they say,
nothing is impossible with love, and you can do everything or anything
for love. For me, it's not stupidity, foolishness, or whatsoever. It is
just the totality of all those five values that I've mentioned. Maybe,
I haven't mentioned all the ingredients of love, but this is the sum of
all the positive things that are existing in this world. But it doesn't
mean that physical beauty is the only thing that is important here.
For
me, LOVE is a GIVE AND TAKE, and a TWO-WAY process [just like
communication and learning], and I guess it also applies to the
commandment LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF because if you do,
they will give love to you too. The bottom line here is that everything
should start within ourselves.
This is just a sudden burst of
feelings, so please, don't argue with me. Opinions are welcome, but
criticisms are not, except for my grammar.
