PERSEF1: Interview

Our group interviewed Mrs. Pinky Ramos. She is currently our teacher in ECEDSED.

1. Why did you choose to be a teacher?

"It wasn't my first choice, but after I got married I got frustrated with how a teacher dealt with my son. I took up education units after that."

2. Given an opportunity, would you change your profession?

"I like my profession. It's not confined in a classroom only, there's an advocacy where you protect rights of children and parents through seminars, programs to improve lives. No, I will not change my profession."

3. What have you learned about people in teaching?

"Young children- I learn much from them, from their responses, thoughts, and about life. Also the same from their parents. There is also validation of theories, education is dynamic, and that teaching is a two-way process. Passion is essential, and teaching is not just an income- generating job; it needs dedication."

4. What do you dislike about teaching?

"Preparation of materials takes long, checking of papers, 24 hour job, schedule- time, parents complaining are a challenge."

PERSEF1: Reflective Essay

"What I learned in life, I learned in PERSEF"

1. The two most meaningful modules I took in this course would be module 10 (Characteristics of a Good School) and  module 11 (Leadership). Module 10 made an impact to me because I realized that I have truly accepted  that I am already a Lasallian. During the first few months in DLSU, I had a hard time coping with everything. I was used to being so sheltered and having my comfort zone. This time around, I was able to explore more than what life really is. I also saw that the curriculum in our university is really good and that I know it will help me excel in the future. I have come to appreciate where I am studying now and I am excited to experience more exciting events along the way as I continue to learn everyday. On the other hand, module 11 hit me because I felt that I need to prepare myself this coming school year. I was elected as one of EdGE 07's Legislative Assembly Representative and I know I need to set my priorities straight as a leader and as a normal student too. I want to serve in the best way I can because that is my purpose in the student council. Having discussing this in class, my eyes were opened in a sense that this it, I am given one shot to prove myself that I can do it.

2. I believe that  my growth and development was more enhanced through the activities done in class. I personally realized that I am matured now to act and decide on things. I know for a fact what's right and wrong. I set my own priorities, values and beliefs in a way that it will make things better for me, since I make who I am.

3. I am personally a sociable person. Making new friends and relating with them is something I enjoy. At present, I think that I became even more understanding to the people around me. I was reminded that my world does not just revolve around me and my own set of friends. There is a bigger community out there to consider also. I guess being sensitive is something I was able to practice and I am happy that I did. I care about things I usually did not mind before. I think it is just a matter of being considerate with how reality is.

4. Basically, this course helped me see and get the bigger picture. Just like I mentioned in number 3, I was able to feel how reality is. In order to become a holistic person, you must be open to this. There are things that you haven't come to notice unless you really take the effort to do so. And that is what I did. I let myself become more aware, involved and effective because being a Lasallian takes more than just hearing what is happening around you, but actually taking time to do something about it.

PERSEF1: Lasallian Citizen Watch

1. In you few weeks of stay in De La Salle, can you identify one area of concern that affects the qulaity of life in your school?

I think that the 1.5 class hours standard affects the quality of life in my school, even though it was only implemented during the third term. This is because students aren't able to cope with more than 1 hour of class. Although, Fridays with no school is a big help.

2. What is your proposed solution to this problem?

I suggest that the administration should continue having the Friday day off, but should lessen the class hours and limit it to an hour only during the Monday to Thursday schedule. By doing this, the students will be more enhanced in studying. Also, they will not feel too drained and pressured to actually excel.

3. As an active citizen in De La Salle, what do you commit yourself to do so that this school would become an ideal school?

Being elected as one of CED's LA representatives this coming school year, I commit myself in serving the rights of the students by making their voices heard. I aim for improvement inside and outside our campus.

PERSEF1: Citizenship

How do you take advantage of designing a shirt? To prove something, to show your artistic skills, to brighten other's days, to promote something? But this time around, there are two people who use it for advocacies. This is what Team Manila stands for; the Philippines at its natural and everyday state.

Jowee Alviar and Mon Punzalan are the founders of Team Manila. I consider them as people who exemplify the characteristics of a true Filipino. I do not know them personally but through what they do, I can say that they have shown genuine nationalism for our own country. They started out in UST College of Fine Arts, Advertising as blockmates. After both have graduated, they formed what is now called Team Manila, a graphic design lifestlye store that sells shirts, bags, clocks, wallets, stickers, pins, etc. that show the bare nature of our country. Their consciousness towards figures such as sidewalk vendors, crowded places of Manila, street food, sports (sipa, jack & poy), national heroes, and our other traditional ways was transferred to the normal Filipino's own consciousness. Through this, they are able to capture the lifestlye of the Fiilipinos which fostered into at the least recognizing the small factors that build our nation.

What I like most about the idea behind Team Manila is that they don't just wear their shirts themselves, but they let others wear them too as well. On some occasions, they give away their shirts for free. This shows how they secure the country's culture and unity. The pride of every Filipino is shown just by simply wearing a shirt made by them. Who could have thought? Two people's ideas implanting into our bodies. It also serves as household pasalubong for the Filipinos overseas. It doesn't only confine within our territory but into other's as well.

Even though some Filipinos say that they aren't proud of the society they belong to, wearing a Team Manila apparel or accessory could just prove that they still regard our country. And that is what we need in the Philippines right now... Pride, unity and awareness.

PERSEF1: Collage!

Photobucket

Someday, I want to become a pre school teacher. Children have continuously made me happy. And it makes me excited that in the near future I will be handling them as we continue to learn from one another. They will surely serve as my inspiration as I teach minds, touch hearts, and transform lives. :)

PERSEF1: Love

Love love love.

It makes me think if people are actually in love or they’re just in love with the word love. I wouldn’t really know and that’s something I’d just keep in my own mind. Two meetings ago, the class discussed issues about love and I have chosen to make a stand on pre-marital sex.

I will have to go for both yes and no on this certain issue.

I say no to pre-marital sex because it is simply against my religion. Following the order of God is something I would definitely respect. But, sometimes it makes me think that what if there were no rules to follow? I mean, you’d be doing it anyway so why else wait? Perhaps, people are impatient and they just do it for the sake of actually doing it. I am hoping that they do it out of true love. It is not because they were bored or they just wanted to try it out.

Then again… reality check. Our world is inclined to the fact that we should be having sex once we are married. I just think that it is unreasonable sometimes. They say that the right time will come and we just have to wait for that moment in our lives.

But as for me, if there were no rules to follow I would just think of the pros and cons of having pre-marital sex.  Each of us are matured enough to know the consequences for our own actions and it is up to us to handle it. I know that it is not guaranteed that the girl will get pregnant, but you will also think that what if she does? What happens next? It is a risk, a big risk indeed. So, maybe… just to be in the safe side… do it once you’re already married. ; )

Remember: LOVE IS A CHOICE.
