Monsoon wedding / Dissing Singapore / Hardware
Written by lainie at 01:41 PM on March 23, 2005 in Daily Life, Friends.
Yesterday was a very good day for me
KA invited us to a free screening of the movie "Monsoon Wedding" and since Fip and I are low on the cash factor we agreed. At the screening I met some of KA's friends. One guy called Nish (I think) shook my hand and I think he crushed two small bones into oblivion.
It took a lot of years of social training to not squeak and pathetically shake my hand in front on him. Fip said no such thing happened to her cause she squeezed his hand back, and said I should have done the same. My delicate paws are used for art and video games only
The father in Monsoon Wedding is Captain Nemo in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Very different characters, here he's an all emo Punjabi dad, there he's a stereotype hero. I liked the marigold characters the most. I didnd't like it when the groom apologised for losing his temper after finding out his fiancee had been cheating on him. What the hell man.
After that we went for dinner and played pool at Club 7. All in all a chilled out night. KA had this really interesting point about Singapore.
Ka: Hey you guys know how every country has some mascot or flower to represent them?
Lainie: Yeah..what about it.
KA: Do you know what Singapore's one is?
Lainie: Can't remember what it is, why?
KA: It's a merlion. You know what it represents?
Lainie: What?
[ Pause. ]
KA: Represents confusion.
Lainie: HAHA!
KA: Seriously, it doesn't know if it wants to be a lion or mermaid, so confused.
Lainie: Represents Singapore that way.
Fip: Based on something that doesn't exist, says a lot.
KA: Yeah. The gay people are so much more out there, it's like 50% of the population is gay.
[ Just check out Fridae.com, I swear there are tons of gay Singaporeans there ]
Lainie: Explains the confused merlion.
KA: Yeah if 30% of the population is gay, 29.999% looks like they're from Singapore.
It's quite a Malaysian thing to diss Singapore sometimes, ironically the three of us love that place. KA and I agree Borders (huge bookstore) is a wonderful place.
Okay, maybe I'm just a ho for good bookstores.

I've been wondering lately what would happen if I was a famous actress - that's probably all I'll ever do because I'm a horribly stiff actress. Sigh. The cash flow is one part I could do with, that's for sure.

Fip and I are sitting side by side using our laptops, and we're connected via infrared. It's so cool, our laptops are sexing too!
I have to go back to Ipoh soon, my mother is expecting me. She called Fip's number the other day, just picked the most called number from our phone bills. She's rather sly that way.
Mom planning to buy me a photo printer, the Epson C65. Anyone knows anything about it? I'm gonna google it soon, but feedback from anyone who already owns it would be cool.

The best one I've seen has to be Waterstones in Britain though. HUGE HUGE HUGE building, 5-7 stories high and VERY wide, and it's filled with EVERY BOOK YOU CAN IMAGINE. And NONE are wrapped.
I spent ages in the Pagan section. XD
*still wants to stay overnight in a bookstore*
